Fen Edge Textiles (F.E.T.) came together as a
group in September 2002, meeting six Saturdays a year At Cottenham Village
College with their Mentor/Co-ordinator, Pauline Verrinder (
paulineverrinder.com ).
-
To become a member of the group, textile artists
go through a selection process to gain entry. There are no restrictions as
to where they live.
-
The present group consists of eighteen members
who are mainly from East Anglia.
-
The aim of the group is to raise the profile of
textile art by sharing and encouraging the personal development of its members'
work and to extend their experience by exhibiting regularly, both locally and
nationally. Above all they indulge their passion for textiles and share it
with others.
-
Fen Edge Textiles have already exhibited at 'Textiles in Focus' and
twice at the Fashion & Embroidery Show at Harrogate. The
group also put on a very successful, major exhibition called 'Quintessential' at
'Blickling Hall', Norfolk in April 2007, and an exhibition at the Warner Archive
in Braintree in 2008 which was based on the Archive's fabrics of the
1940's-50's and 60's.
-
This year, 2009, Fen Edge Textiles exhibited at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk, from the 6th June until 21st June. The
exhibition was largely based on 'The Treasures of Sutton Hoo'.
-
The group's project for 2010 is an exhibition
at the Maeuldune Centre, Maldon Essex, from 8th September until the 2nd October.
-
In 2011 we will be exhibiting at Art Van Go, 1
Stevenage Road, Knebworth, 8th February to 5th March, more details on the Home
page. Our theme for this exhibition is 'Taking Liberties', a very wide
subject with so many meanings.
