I have been involved with
needlecraft of some sort or another for most of my life but it was a
desire to create my own cross-stitch designs that led me into City &
Guilds and contemporary textile art. I haven’t picked up a cross-stitch
kit since then!
I have completed City & Guilds Foundation in Embroidery and City & Guilds Diploma in Embroidery. Although post-C&G work has been influenced by themes suggested by the exhibition venues, I find myself being drawn back to the Celtic and Irish themes that I developed during the City & Guilds course. In addition to this, I have also fallen in love with sea-horses – perhaps because they bear a passing resemblance to the dragons that feature in myths and legends – and with sea-life in general. These themes will no doubt feature in my work in the future I joined the Fen Edge Textiles exhibiting group and so far have been involved in exhibitions at Blickling Hall, a National Trust property in Norfolk, the Warner Textile Archive in Braintree and Sutton Hoo. We are now preparing for our next exhibition later this year in Maldon - see our Home Page or Events Page for details. In addition to this, I have just bought a business 'Threads 'n' Things - www.threadsnthings.co.uk I can be contacted by email :- lorna@threadsnthings.co.ukApril 2010
